Christmas 2025

Each year we strive to provide special gifts for families who will spend their Christmas in a Neonatal unit in Western Australia. This year our gifts consisted of gorgeous quilted Christmas Stockings made and donated by our wonderful Crafty Creator Collective, Baby’s First Christmas ornament with special thanks to Laser Artistry, a Christmas milestone card, beanie, pen and free 12 month membership to the Baby Play Academy thanks to the incredible Nicole Pates at Western Kids Health.

We spent our first Christmas in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth and it was such a tough time. Being split between siblings at home and our little one in the hospital was so very challenging. We’ve heard time and time again how special, seen and understood families feel when they receive a gift from us to mark a special occasion.

This Christmas we were truly delighted to pass the 10,000 special occasion gift mark and that’s all that to you and other members of our amazing community.

Christmas 2025

A Christmas spent in hospital is an incredibly challenging time for families, especially those who are separated from their family or friends. Having first hand experience of Christmas in NICU our team have been providing special occasion gifts not just for Christmas, but other occasions too, since our inception in 2013. This year was no different.

We were super grateful to have two lovely volunteers who used their corporate volunteer days to come along to Tiny Sparks HQ and pack a whopping 325 Christmas gifts! Whilst the largest Neonatal Units are located in Perth some country hospitals do have dedicated bed space to care for baby’s needing some additional care and attention after birth. Our programs ensure that every family, no matter their location receive the support they need.

Our Christmas gifts are generously supported by the small Perth family run business Foote & Flame with stockings generously sewn and donated by the Tiny Sparks Crafty Collective.

2022 Christmas Quilting Project

Those of you following along for a while know that each year we run a Christmas Quilt drive. The drive enables us to gift each baby in a Neonatal Unit bed on Christmas Day, a beautiful hand made gift, along with a sentimental ‘Baby’s 1st Christmas’ ornament which have been generously made and donated by Foote & Flame every year since our inception.

Most years we have accepted a mix of rectangular quilts and Christmas stockings. Following extensive discussions with our hospital network, this years project with be Christmas Stockings. Our goal number is 300 stockings. Any stockings in excess of this are distributed to maternity wards and then paediatrics at the hospitals we work with.

The Christmas Stocking pattern can be found at Diary of a Quilter, and it’s with thanks to Amy Smart for allowing us to share with our network. Pattern and Instructions Link.

The cut off date to get your stockings to us is Friday 18 November. This allows us enough time to collate and distribute all over the state. Some parcels are posted to our regional hospitals so we need to work with Australia Post Christmas posting timelines too.

Any questions that you might have about this project can be posted into our Crafty Creator Group.

Christmas 2021

Spending your baby’s first Christmas in hospital can be stressful and have a huge emotional impact on families. We truly understand what families are experiencing because several of our co-founders spent their baby’s first Christmas in NICU too. When establishing Tiny Sparks in 2013 we knew it would be important to assist families to celebrate all of the special occasions, to bring them a little cheer, and to let them know we care.

Since then each year we’ve had the absolute privilege of working with the gorgeous family behind Foote and Flame to create a unique ‘Baby’s 1st Christmas’ ornament. Year on year they have so very generously donated the ornaments to form part of our gift.

Our Crafty Creators have also worked hard each year to ensure a gift made with love, that can be treasured forever is provided to every baby. This year is no exception with hundreds of stockings and quilts received.

We know that any time a baby is separated from their family for medical care has an impact. It doesn’t matter if the separation is a few hours, days, weeks or months, it isn’t the way any family ever imagined it would be. This is why we send gifts out to all hospitals all over our great state of Western Australia. The families in Bunbury, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Albany, Broome and others are often overlooked, but need just a such support and care.

As 2021 comes to a close we wish you all a magical holiday period and a healthy and happy 2022.
